Paxton Net2 download, v7 upgrade, Lite vs Pro and database backup
Download Net2 only through Paxton’s official installer channel, inventory controllers and integrations before upgrading, and create a tested recovery point before any server or database change.

What changed with Net2 v7?
Paxton states that Net2 v7 was released on February 3, 2026. It adds multi-factor authentication for software operators and is designed for the current Net2 Plus controller range. Systems containing Net2 Classic controllers cannot upgrade beyond Net2 v6.9; Paxton says v6.9 remains supported for those sites. That makes controller inventory the first upgrade task—not clicking an installer.
Discover the system
Record Net2 version, Windows edition, SQL/database state, controller models, IP and RS-485 topology, integrations, clients, operators and remote-access features.
Assess compatibility
Identify every Classic controller and any SDK-based integration. Paxton says the legacy SDK is discontinued for v7 and directs integrations toward its local API.
Design recovery
Create and verify a Net2 backup, protect the Pro license information, document service accounts and preserve the prior installer and database until acceptance is complete.
Read Paxton’s official v7 notice and confirm the current Windows and Net2 compatibility table.
Net2 Lite versus Net2 Pro
| Area | Net2 Lite | Net2 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| License | Free edition for standard access-control management. | Paid license supplied with an activation key. |
| Core scale | Paxton’s current software material describes Net2 as supporting up to 1,000 doors and 50,000 users. Verify the selected edition and deployed release; do not assume an old 64-door claim applies. | |
| Included workflows | User/access administration, reporting, unlimited clients, CCTV/basic intruder integration, graphics and standard functions. | Lite capabilities plus advanced features such as fire and multi-zone intruder integration, lockdown, anti-passback, card design, timesheet/timeline, roll call, areas and occupancy functions. |
| Remote tools | Verify the required function in the current comparison. | Paxton Connect and Net2Online require supported Net2 Pro versions. |
Use Paxton’s current software comparison and project requirements instead of buying Pro because of a single feature name.
Safe Net2 upgrade sequence
- Confirm authorized ownership, maintenance window, current health and business impact.
- Export system inventory and create a Net2 backup; verify that the backup can be located and is protected.
- Check Windows, disk, memory, database, antivirus, network ports and client compatibility against the live Paxton page.
- Resolve Classic controllers and SDK integrations before selecting v7.
- Upgrade a controlled system, test operator MFA and verify every controller returns online.
- Test authorized, denied, forced, held, schedule, fire-interface, lockdown, reporting, backup and recovery behavior.
