Nexkey Core, Solo and Controller: Specifications, Pricing and Installer Guide

Nexkey offers three different door approaches: Core replaces compatible lock cylinders, Solo is a battery-powered smart strike, and Controller connects compatible electrified hardware to the Nexkey platform. The right choice follows the opening and operational workflow.

We install, configure, service, maintain and support Nexkey products and systems. Work can include survey, engineering, procurement, field installation, software setup, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, upgrades, administrator training and lifecycle planning.

Nexkey Controller for mobile commercial access control

Nexkey hardware selection and installed cost: decisions before procurement

Core smart cylinder

Evaluate cylinder/lock compatibility, dimensions, key override or fallback, battery access, traffic, mobile range, interior/exterior conditions and who maintains the opening.

Solo smart strike

Confirm cylindrical or mortise-without-deadbolt compatibility, wood/metal frame, latch geometry, preload, dimensions, battery access and the published mobile-device requirements.

Controller for electrified hardware

Map power, lock type/current, inputs/outputs, REX/DPS, fire/emergency interface, Wi-Fi for remote features, enclosure and service access.

Scope the complete installed system

Planning area What to verify
Installed price Device, lock/strike/door preparation, power and wiring where required, Wi-Fi/network work, labor, subscription/service terms, training and spares.
Compatibility Door/frame, lockset/cylinder, latch/deadbolt, handing, egress/fire, environment, dimensions, trim and manual fallback.
Mobile operation Supported phone/watch, OS and internet, Bluetooth range, administrator/user onboarding, temporary access and phone replacement.
Lifecycle Battery or power, alignment, firmware/app, account ownership, audit events, Wi-Fi health, spare components, warranty and support.

Installation, upgrade and acceptance workflow

  1. Survey each opening, door and frame construction, existing lock/closer, egress, fire interface, accessibility, power, pathways and network before selecting hardware.
  2. Inventory the exact software, version, license or tenant owner, panels, hubs, locks, readers, credentials, firmware, integrations and administrator-recovery path.
  3. Confirm current manufacturer compatibility and documentation; prepare a model-specific bill of materials, wiring plan and responsibility matrix.
  4. Install and configure power, network, controllers or hubs, locks, readers, sensors, schedules, holidays, roles, credentials, alerts and approved integrations.
  5. Test authorized, denied, held, forced, request-to-exit, fire-release, communication-loss, power-loss and recovery behavior at every affected opening.
  6. Deliver as-builts, device/version records, account and license ownership, acceptance results, administrator training and a preventive-maintenance plan.

Common buyer and administrator questions

What is the difference between Core, Solo and Controller?

Core is a smart-cylinder approach, Solo is a readerless smart strike, and Controller brings compatible electrified locking hardware into the platform.

What are Solo’s published device requirements?

Nexkey currently lists iOS 14 or later and Android 9 or later, with mobile/Apple Watch credentials; verify current details before procurement.

How much does Nexkey cost per door?

Cost depends on the selected device, door preparation, electrified hardware/power, subscriptions, Wi-Fi, labor and ongoing support. A surveyed installed quote is more useful than a hardware-only figure.

Do you install and maintain Nexkey?

Yes. We can survey compatibility, install supported devices, configure the platform, train administrators and service the door, device and connectivity path.

Official manufacturer resources

Use manufacturer-controlled pages for current manuals, software, firmware, compatibility and release information. We link to those portals and do not host firmware locally.
