Milestone XProtect downloads, device packs and upgrades
Download XProtect software, hotfixes and drivers only through Milestone’s official resources. Before an upgrade, match the VMS release, Windows/SQL platform, recording servers, cameras, device-pack drivers, extensions and license entitlement.
Four packages people commonly confuse
XProtect VMS release
The management, event, recording, mobile and client components for a named XProtect release. Follow Milestone’s supported upgrade path and sequence.
Regular Device Pack
Drivers that let recording servers communicate with supported cameras and other IP devices. Install the required pack on each recording server.
Legacy Device Pack
Drivers for older equipment. Milestone states the legacy pack is no longer supported, so use requires an explicit lifecycle and risk decision.
Hotfix or Update Manager content
Targeted fixes must match installed components and prerequisites. Test them as controlled software changes, not generic Windows updates.
Upgrade sequence
- Inventory management, event, recording, failover, mobile and client servers; VMS release; SLC; Care status; Device Packs; extensions; cameras and firmware.
- Check Milestone system requirements, product lifecycle, supported-device entries and any multi-version upgrade prerequisites.
- Back up configuration and SQL databases; preserve licenses, certificates, service identities, encryption keys and recovery instructions.
- Rehearse on representative hardware, including camera discovery, recording, playback, rules, alarms, exports, mobile and integrations.
- Upgrade in the official sequence, confirm every recording server and document rollback/acceptance evidence.
Camera and driver compatibility
Milestone’s Supported Device List identifies tested devices, driver choice, compatible firmware and applicable licensing. Milestone says the list now contains more than 16,500 devices and generally applies one device license per supported device; universal or unlisted drivers can be licensed per enabled video channel. Verify the current entry for the exact model rather than assuming a related series is identical.
