Commercial security camera installation cost and design

A useful camera quote starts with risk, scene and evidence requirements. Camera count alone cannot price coverage, pathways, network, power, recording, analytics, operator access, commissioning or lifecycle support.

Commercial camera pricing — North & South Carolina

What a commercial camera system actually costs

Most published camera pricing is either residential or a hardware-only number that ignores the labor and infrastructure that make up the majority of a commercial job. These are 360 Technology Group’s working ranges for commercial work in the Carolinas.

Typical installed cost of a commercial security camera system in North and South Carolina
System size Typical installed cost
Four-camera commercial system $4,500 – $9,000
Eight-camera commercial system $8,000 – $20,000
Sixteen-camera commercial system $16,000 – $40,000
Enterprise, high-access or specialty systems Site-specific pricing

Per-camera

  • Installation labor: $350–$700 per camera. This is a standard indoor camera where a new network cable has to be pulled. It covers the cable run, termination, mounting, aiming, focus and configuration — not the camera itself.
  • Complete installed camera location: $750 to $3,000+. Camera, cabling, mount, configuration and the location’s share of recording and network infrastructure. Where a location lands in that range is driven by brand, camera capability and site conditions.
  • What pushes a location toward the top. Outdoor placement, high ceilings and difficult access, because they may require weatherproof pathways, conduit, a lift, a long cable route or a second technician.

Priced separately in the proposal

Camera equipment, recording infrastructure, software licensing and cloud subscriptions vary by manufacturer and are quoted as their own line items. That matters when you compare bids: two quotes for “16 cameras” are not comparable unless both state the models, the retention, the recorder and whether a cloud subscription is included and for how long.

Where these numbers do not apply

Enterprise, high-access and specialty systems are priced site-specifically. So are jobs with trenching between buildings, explosion-proof or wash-down environments, license-plate capture at speed, and sites where the existing network cannot carry the system without being upgraded first. We will tell you when your project is outside the ranges above and why, rather than quoting a number we would have to revise.

What changes installed cost?

Scene and image objective

Detection, observation, recognition, identification, license plates, cash handling, perimeter or process oversight require different views, pixels, lenses, lighting and mounting.

Pathways and network

Copper/fiber routes, lifts, ceilings, exterior trenching, surge/grounding, PoE budgets, switches, VLANs, bandwidth, remote access and cybersecurity can exceed camera hardware cost.

Recording and operations

Codec, bitrate, retention, RAID, failover, cloud subscription, analytics, users, mobile access, evidence export and health monitoring define the platform.

Survey-to-acceptance sequence

  1. Define risks, incidents, privacy boundaries, retention, responders and evidence use.
  2. Survey representative day/night scenes, mounting, lighting, obstructions, weather and network/power routes.
  3. Calculate camera/lens/illumination, bandwidth, PoE and usable storage from the intended settings.
  4. Install, label, weather-seal, protect, aim/focus and configure least-privilege user access.
  5. Prove day/night image objectives, motion/analytics, recording, search, export, time, alerts, outage and recovery.

Ask for Why it matters
Exact models and settings Resolution on a datasheet does not guarantee the intended view, lens, night image or analytics.
Usable retention State camera settings, recording policy, overhead, RAID and evidence-lock assumptions.
Infrastructure List cable/fiber, pathways, switches, PoE, UPS, rack, internet/cloud and client workstations.
Acceptance evidence Specify day/night snapshots, playback/export, alerts, user roles and failure/recovery tests.
Lifecycle Include warranty, health checks, cleaning/focus, firmware/VMS policy, backups and response options.

Installation, maintenance and repair
