School security is not a commercial system with a different logo on the quote. It is built around a small number of events that must work perfectly — a locked front door on a normal Tuesday, a lockdown that has to propagate in seconds, and an after-hours basketball game where half the building must be open and the other half sealed. 360 Technology Group installs and services access control, cameras, intercom and mass notification for K-12 schools, private schools, charter schools and college campuses across North and South Carolina.

Secure vestibule and visitor workflow

The front door is the whole system for most parents and inspectors. Video intercom at the exterior door, remote release from the front office, a vestibule that forces visitors through reception before reaching a classroom corridor, and visitor management that checks ID and prints a badge. The physical door sequence has to match the software workflow or the vestibule is decorative.

Lockdown and emergency override

One action — a button, a badge tap, a phone app, a call from the office — that locks every perimeter and classroom door it is supposed to lock and leaves alone the ones that must stay free for egress. It has to be testable during a drill without unlocking the building afterwards by accident, and it has to be reversible by a named person.

Fire alarm release — the detail that fails inspection

Electrified locks on egress doors must release on fire alarm and never impede free egress from the inside. This is where school access control most often fails inspection or, worse, passes inspection and then behaves wrongly in a real alarm. We coordinate the interface with the fire alarm contractor and test it as part of acceptance, in writing.

Classroom doors and existing hardware

Most Carolina schools have decades of mixed door hardware. Before anything is quoted we survey door and frame condition, handing, lock function, closers and whether the frame will even accept an electric strike. Retrofitting wireless locks onto a bad frame produces a door that fails in six months.

After-hours and community use

Gyms, auditoriums and fields get used by booster clubs, church groups and rec leagues. Schedules, temporary credentials and zone-by-zone unlock let a group into the gym corridor without opening the academic wing. Done properly this replaces the loaned key that never comes back.

Video retention and incident export

Districts commonly need 30 days or more, and need a named administrator able to export a clip for an SRO or a parent meeting without calling a vendor. We size retention against the real recording settings and train the people who will actually pull the footage.

Permissions: who can do what

School systems have more distinct roles than almost any other facility we work in, and getting them wrong is how a system quietly stops being used. A school resource officer needs live video and door control but not the ability to delete recordings. Front office staff need visitor management and remote unlock, not system configuration. The principal needs lockdown. District IT needs the platform. Custodial staff need scheduled access to specific areas at specific hours. We define these roles in writing during design and configure them at commissioning rather than handing over one administrator password.

Installing while school is in session

Most district work happens in phases around an occupied, supervised building. That shapes the schedule more than the technology does: work in corridors during class time or after dismissal, no open ceilings above students, background-checked technicians, no door left non-functional overnight, and cutovers scheduled so the building is never left without a working lock-up at the end of the day. Summer windows are short and get booked early — we plan district work months ahead.

Common questions

Can you add lockdown to the access control we already have?

Often yes, depending on the platform and whether the door hardware supports it. We check what the existing system can actually do before recommending replacement — adding a lockdown workflow to a capable existing system is far cheaper than starting over.

Do you work with district IT on network and cybersecurity requirements?

Yes. Cameras and controllers go on a segmented VLAN, default credentials are replaced, remote access follows the district policy, and we provide the device inventory and addressing for their records.

How long does a typical school project take?

It depends on door and camera counts and how much of the work has to happen outside school hours. We phase by wing or by building and give you a schedule tied to your calendar, including the drill and acceptance test dates.
