Office and commercial building security systems
Most commercial buildings do not have a dramatic threat model. They have a front door that should lock itself, a suite that several people need after hours, a server room that should not be open to everyone, and a landlord or tenant relationship that determines who pays for what. 360 Technology Group installs and services access control, cameras, intercom and alarms for offices, professional practices, multi-tenant buildings and mixed-use commercial property across North and South Carolina.
Tenant versus base building
In a multi-tenant building, the lobby, elevators and common corridors usually belong to the landlord and the suite door to the tenant. Deciding early which system owns which door — and who holds the credentials — avoids the most common commercial access-control argument.
After-hours access
The real requirement in most offices is that a defined group can get in on a Saturday without a key being copied, and that there is a record of it. Schedules, credentials and an audit trail deliver that with far less friction than a key system.
Server rooms and sensitive suites
IT rooms, HR files, legal records and any area under a compliance obligation deserve their own access level and, often, their own camera. This is usually a small incremental cost during a project and an expensive retrofit afterwards.
Visitor and reception workflow
Video intercom and remote release let a small office stop staffing a door, or let a receptionist control entry without leaving the desk. For practices with waiting rooms, controlling the door from the clinical side matters more than lobby cameras.
Elevator and floor access
Restricting elevator access by floor or by hour is common in multi-tenant buildings and needs to be scoped with the elevator contractor rather than assumed.
Growth and churn
Offices reconfigure constantly. Systems should be specified with spare panel capacity, spare cable and a credential scheme that survives a floor being resubdivided, because it will be.
Cloud or on-premise for a single office
For a single office of moderate size, cloud access control usually wins: no server to maintain, no VPN to configure, remote unlock from a phone, and updates handled by the manufacturer. The trade is a subscription that does not end. On-premise still makes sense where there is capable IT, a preference for capital spend, or a policy against cloud-hosted door control. We will model both over five years and let you choose on the numbers.
Common questions
We lease our space. Can we still install access control?
Usually yes, on your own suite door, with landlord consent for anything touching base building or the fire alarm. We are used to working within a lease and can document the scope for a landlord approval request.
How many doors is it worth doing?
One is enough to be worth it if it is the right door. There is no minimum — a single controlled entrance with mobile credentials and an audit trail is a normal small project for us.
Can we keep our existing readers?
Sometimes, depending on the credential technology and wiring. Older Wiegand readers can often be reused short term but are worth replacing with encrypted OSDP readers when the panel is changed. We tell you which of your existing parts are worth keeping.

Office security systems and small business security systems
An office rarely needs an enterprise design with items crossed out, which is what a lot of proposals amount to. It needs the entrance controlled, the comms room controlled, cameras on the routes people actually walk, and an alarm that reaches a monitoring center rather than an empty corridor.
- Small business security systems — typically 4–8 cameras, two or three controlled doors and a monitored alarm. Anything beyond that should be justified by something specific, not by a package tier.
- Office security systems in multi-tenant buildings need a clear boundary between the landlord's system and yours, decided at design rather than discovered later.
- Growing offices — specify a controller and cabling that take the next four doors, because the second phase always costs more than the first if it was not planned for.
Commercial alarm monitoring: who actually answers
Commercial alarm systems are sold as hardware and bought as a response. The panel, contacts and sensors detect; a monitoring center staffed around the clock decides what to do. Excellent equipment reporting to nobody is a loud noise in an empty parking lot.
The change worth knowing about is video verification. False-alarm rates pushed many jurisdictions into deprioritizing unverified alarms, charging for repeat activations, or requiring verification before dispatch. A verified alarm sends the operator a clip from the camera covering that zone, so a real event is dispatched with a description and a non-event is stood down without a fine.
Also non-negotiable: cellular backup. An alarm reporting only over a phone line or broadband stops reporting the moment either is cut, and both are cut from outside the building.
